Dr. Murray charged in Jackson death
As expected, Dr. Conrad Murray was charged yesterday with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of singer Michael Jackson.
Murray, who was hired by Jackson to be his personal physician as he got ready for his London comeback concerts, was with the singer when he died on June 25th.
Officials say Murray was the one responsible for giving Jackson the powerful anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives in order to help him sleep. According to the coroner's report, it was propofol that killed the singer.
Murray pleaded not guilty to the charge, and bail was set at $75,000, three times the standard amount set for similar cases, although prosecutors requested the amount be set at $300,000. Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted. His next court date is set for April 5th. In other Murray news...the Attorney General has filed a motion requesting the revocation of Murray's license to practice medicine.
For now, the judge in the case did prohibit Murray from administering or prescribing any sedatives.
